Theatre 2, 3 and Advanced Theatre

Theatre 2 & 3

Theatre holds auditions for students wishing to participate in the theatre classes beyond Theatre 1.  Students who choose to skip a level such as freshman interested in participating in Theatre 2 instead of Theatre 1 may audition.  Any student interested in enrolling in Advanced Theatre (Honors) must audition.

Students interested in Theatre 2 or 3 must prepare a 1 minute monologue.

Advanced Theatre

Students interested in receiving honors credit in theatre must audition for and be accepted into the Advanced Drama Production and Theory Class. This is an advanced level class in which you will be required to read, research, write, and perform/direct/design utilizing the knowledge that you gain through your theatrical studies. It is required that students entering this class have a working knowledge of the art and be able to communicate their understanding through writing and performance.

The audition will be composed of three main areas. Knowledge, Performance, and Communication.
  1. Identify a theatre artist that you have learned about and respect. Write a 500 word response to the following question:  How has the identified artist shaped the theatre world through their work and how has it impacted your work?
  2. Select a one minute monologue that best demonstrates your performance ability. (Designers provide an artistic rendering of a scenic, costume, lighting, etc design.)
  3. Choose a 2-5 minute selection from the play Hello Out There by William Saroyan http://engl262g-gleason.wikispaces.umb.edu/file/view/hello+out+there.pdf
You will be given 2 actors to work with and you will be asked to work with them for 15 minutes to communicate a director’s vision for the scene. They will perform your vision as part of the audition.

Audition dates and times TBD for the 2022-2023 Season
